英國「每日郵報」（Daily Mail）報導，凶手濫射導致9人死亡、21人受傷。警方正在調查一個臉書上的假廣告，廣告指案發處的麥當勞將提供免費食物，不排除凶手以此假廣告引誘兒童來店內。凶嫌就是在這間麥當勞內殺害第1人。

槍手的屍體於案發現場約1公里處被發現，警方起初懷疑凶嫌有3人，目前則相信是1人犯案。槍手被證實有德國與伊朗雙重國籍，已居住在慕尼黑超過2年。
